# zserv(8)

CERNLIB server program for transferring ZEBRA formatted files

## NAME

zserv - CERNLIB server program for transferring ZEBRA formatted files

## DESCRIPTION

**zserv** is the server for the ZFTP file transfer program. It listens for connections on port 346. **zserv** is not in general run from the command line, but only via [**inetd**(8)](/inetd/8.md).

Please note that, like many other FTP servers, **zserv** receives unencrypted passwords over the network. It should therefore be used only within a trusted LAN.

## FILES

• */etc/inetd.conf* - specifies how inetd should call zserv

## SEE ALSO

• [**zftp**(1)](/zftp/1.md)\
 • [**inetd**(8)](/inetd/8.md)\
 • [**inetd.conf**(5)](/inetd.conf/5.md)

**zserv** is part of the CERNLIB CSPACK package, documented fully at http://wwwinfo.cern.ch/asdoc/psdir/cspack.ps.gz (PostScript) or http://wwwinfo.cern.ch/asdoc/WWW/cspack/cspmain/cspmain.html (HTML).
