NAME
zICQ - Interact with ICQ servers from your Linux box, console and Xterm.
SYNOPSIS
zicq
There are no command line arguments.
DESCRIPTION
zICQ is an unofficial clone of the ICQ client designed to run on Linux machines, although it may run under other *nixes as well. What does unofficial mean? It means that Mirabilis / AOL have nothing to do with this project. zICQ is designed to run in a console or xterm on a Linux box, it uses the standard telnet daemon packaged with all Linux distributions.
HISTORY
zICQ began as a few small patches and changes to the mICQ project. Eventually, after rewriting the entire user interface and adding various functions, I mailed them back to Matt Smith, the original author. But as time went on, I was ignored and he kept releasing on his own. Because he had made the source code Public Domain, I took it with my changes and started releasing it under the new name zICQ.
So did I just rip the source and take credit for it? No. Much like BitchX spawned from ircII, zICQ has come from mICQ. The theory behind mICQ was / is portability, while zICQ focuses on the Linux platform and useability. I still give lots of credit to the mICQ team, they've done some incredible work.
