# xcb\_damage\_query\_version(3)

Negotiate the version of the DAMAGE extension

## NAME

xcb\_damage\_query\_version - Negotiate the version of the DAMAGE extension

## SYNOPSIS

**#include \<xcb/damage.h\>**

### Request function

xcb\_damage\_query\_version\_cookie\_t **xcb\_damage\_query\_version**(xcb\_connection\_t \**conn*, uint32\_t *client\_major\_version*, uint32\_t *client\_minor\_version*);

### Reply datastructure

```
typedef struct xcb_damage_query_version_reply_t {
    uint8_t  response_type;
    uint8_t  pad0;
    uint16_t sequence;
    uint32_t length;
    uint32_t major_version;
    uint32_t minor_version;
    uint8_t  pad1[16];
} xcb_damage_query_version_reply_t;
```

### Reply function

xcb\_damage\_query\_version\_reply\_t \***xcb\_damage\_query\_version\_reply**(xcb\_connection\_t \**conn*, xcb\_damage\_query\_version\_cookie\_t *cookie*, xcb\_generic\_error\_t \*\**e*);\

## REQUEST ARGUMENTS

- *conn*

  The XCB connection to X11.

- *client\_major\_version*

  The major version supported by the client.

- *client\_minor\_version*

  The minor version supported by the client.

## REPLY FIELDS

- *response\_type*

  The type of this reply, in this case *XCB\_DAMAGE\_QUERY\_VERSION*. This field is also present in the *xcb\_generic\_reply\_t* and can be used to tell replies apart from each other.

- *sequence*

  The sequence number of the last request processed by the X11 server.

- *length*

  The length of the reply, in words (a word is 4 bytes).

- *major\_version*

  The major version chosen by the server.

- *minor\_version*

  The minor version chosen by the server.

## DESCRIPTION

This negotiates the version of the DAMAGE extension. It must precede any other request using the DAMAGE extension. Failure to do so will cause a BadRequest error for those requests.

## RETURN VALUE

Returns an *xcb\_damage\_query\_version\_cookie\_t*. Errors have to be handled when calling the reply function *xcb\_damage\_query\_version\_reply*.

If you want to handle errors in the event loop instead, use *xcb\_damage\_query\_version\_unchecked*. See **[xcb-requests(3)](/xcb-requests/3.md)** for details.

## ERRORS

This request does never generate any errors.
