# wint\_t(3type)

integer type capable of storing any wchar\_t or WEOF

## NAME

wint\_t, WEOF - integer type capable of storing any wchar\_t or WEOF

## LIBRARY

Standard C library (*libc*)

## SYNOPSIS

```
#include <wchar.h>
```

**typedef** /\* ... \*/  **wint\_t;**

**#define WEOF**        /\* ... \*/

**#include \<stdint.h\>**

**#define WINT\_WIDTH**  /\* ... \*/ **#define WINT\_MAX**    /\* ... \*/ **#define WINT\_MIN**    /\* ... \*/

## DESCRIPTION

*wint\_t* is a type used in functions that work with wide characters. It is capable of storing any valid [*wchar\_t*(3type)](/wchar_t/3type.md) or **WEOF**. It is an integer type.

**WEOF** is used by wide-character functions to indicate the end of an input file or an error. It is of type *wint\_t*.

## STANDARDS

C11, POSIX.1-2024.

## HISTORY

- *wint\_t* **WEOF**

  SUSv1, C99, POSIX.1-2001.

- **WINT\_MAX** **WINT\_MIN**

  C99, POSIX.1-2001.

The **WINT\_WIDTH** macro was added in C23.

## NOTES

The following header also provides *wint\_t* and **WEOF**: *\<wctype.h\>*.
