# waveinfo(8)

AT&T GIS WaveLAN PCMCIA card monitor and control utility

## NAME

waveinfo - AT&T GIS WaveLAN PCMCIA card monitor and control utility

## SYNOPSIS

**waveinfo**

## DESCRIPTION

*Waveinfo* displays the current configuration of all WaveLAN PCMCIA cards in the system. For each card, the display includes the interface name, the radio modem's DCE state, number of received packets with correct Network Ids, number of received packets with incorrect Network Ids, current signal level, current silence (background noise) level, whether the current signal level is above the receiver's acceptance threshold, current signal quality, and number of received packets with snr value 0-4.

The radio modem's DCE state is displayed as a row of abbreviated state flags. The \`E' flag indicates that the radio modem is detecting an in-progress transmission. The \`L' flag indicates that the radio modem is currently in a loopback state. The \`T' flag indicates that the radio modem is currently transmitting. The \`J' flag indicates that the radio modem's jabber timer expired.

*Waveinfo* is setuid root so that it can create a temporary device file for accessing the WaveLAN device driver. An ordinary user will not be able to access any of the (currently nonexistent) device driver control functions.
