# vm\_map\_remove(9freebsd)

remove a virtual address range from a map

## NAME

**vm\_map\_remove** – remove a virtual address range from a map

## SYNOPSIS

**#include \<sys/param.h\>**

**#include \<vm/vm.h\>**

**#include \<vm/vm\_map.h\>**

*int*\

**vm\_map\_remove**(*vm\_map\_t map*, *vm\_offset\_t start*, *vm\_offset\_t end*);

## DESCRIPTION

The **vm\_map\_remove**() function removes the given address range bounded by *start* and *end* from the target *map*.

## IMPLEMENTATION NOTES

This is the exported form of [vm\_map\_delete(9)](/vm_map_delete/9.md) which may be called by consumers of the VM subsystem.

The function calls [vm\_map\_lock(9)](/vm_map_lock/9.md) to hold a lock on *map* for the duration of the function call.

## RETURN VALUES

The **vm\_map\_remove**() always returns KERN\_SUCCESS.
