# utmp-conv(8)

convert UTMP files

## NAME

utmp-conv - convert UTMP files

## SYNOPSIS

**utmp-conv** \[**-w**\] \[**-oFR\] \[-n**\] \[**-d**\] \[**-u** *file*\]

## DESCRIPTION

This program converts old (libc5 and libc4) type utmp files into new (libc6) type ones and vice versa. By default it just read the file. Use -w option to really do something.

## COMMAND-LINE OPTIONS

Write converted utmp file. Convert new to old format. Convert olkd to new format (this is the default action). Turn on debugging. This will print each utmp entry to stdout while it is read or written. Use *file* instead of the system default path as utmp file (this is very useful for debugging).

## BUGS

This is a first experimental version. There may be a lot of problems.

**utmp-conv** fails without notice if it cannot write the utmp file.
