# unmount(1)

display the list of volumes mounted by vold, and control vold.

Part of [volq(1)](/volq/1.md).

## NAME

volq - display the list of volumes mounted by vold, and control vold.

## SYNOPSIS

**volq**\
 **eject \| unmount \| remount** **\[***volume***\]**\
 **volq eject \| unmount \| remount** **\[***volume***\]**\
 **volq quit**

## DESCRIPTION

**Volq** is the user level interface to the volume daemon, **vold**. **Volq** tries to open a pipe to **vold** and send commands to the daemon over the pipe. Note that only privileged users can use volq, typically the ones that are allowed to use the cdrom device.

When **volq** is called without parameters, a list of file systems currently mounted by the volume daemon is printed. When it is called with arguments, the arguments are sent to the pipe that **vold** is listening to. **Volq** may be installed as one of **eject**, **unmount**,**or** **remount** and will act as if it was called as **volq** with as argument the program name itself.

## OPTIONS

If one of the commands is given without volume name, the default volume name */cdrom* is assumed. This expands to the first volume that is found at /cdrom.

- umount \[volume\]

  - unmount \[volume\]

  These commands try to un-mount the medium named *volume* by sending the appropriate command to **vold**.

- eject \[volume\]

  This command tries to un-mount the volume and afterwards eject the the medium.

- remount \[volume\]

  This command tries to mount a volume after it has been unmounted. Normally, a volume will only be remounted after an unmount by **vold** if the the medium has been ejected and re-inserted again.

- quit

  If this command is received, **vold** stops, removes its command pipe and pid-file, and exits gracefully. This command can only be given by root.

## DIAGNOSTICS

A command to unmount something will result in a message "Trying to unmount ..." but there is no checking done that **vold** actually performs the request.

When the daemon has been started with the debugging option, a **volq** request may lead to verbose output on the daemon's controlling terminal.

## files

*/var/run/vold.pipe*

*/var/run/vold.pid*
