# tmplay(1)

a tclmidi script to play a MIDI file

## NAME

**tmplay** – a tclmidi script to play a MIDI file

## SYNOPSIS

**tmplay** \[**-dev** **-DevicePath**\] \[**-repeat**\] \[**-smpte**\] \[**-quiet**\] \[file\]

## DESCRIPTION

**tmplay** is a [tclmidi(1)](/tclmidi/1.md) script that plays a MIDI file. The file name may be specified on the command line or read from stdin. The options are as follows:

- **-dev** **-DevicePath**

Use the device DevicePath instead of the default */dev/midi0*.

- **-repeat**

Play the file repeatedly. If not in quiet mode, the playing may be stopped by pressing the return key. Otherwise the process must be killed.

- **-smpte**

With this flag **tmplay** will use */dev/smpte0* instead of the default */dev/midi0*. It will also let the SMPTE tape cotrol starting and stopping the song.

- **-quiet**

With this option **tmplay** will not print out messages or ask for input.

Since **tmplay** makes use of the midiplay(n) [tclmidi(1)](/tclmidi/1.md) command, this program will only work if [tclmidi(1)](/tclmidi/1.md) was compiled with a device interface.
