# tab2tag(1)

Convert a tab seperated file into a tag file

## NAME

tab2tag - Convert a tab seperated file into a tag file

## SYNOPSIS

**tab2tag** **-t fieldname...**

**tab2tag** **-m**

## DESCRIPTION

tab2tag takes a tab separated file on standard input, and outputs those fields specified on the command line as a tag file.

If the characters \\t or \\n occur in the tabbed input then they are converted into real tabs and newlines in the tag format output file.

## OPTIONS

- **-m**

Mime flag - the input tab file is in the format of the text/tab-separated-values MIME type. The first record in the tab file is the field names used in the data.

## SEE ALSO

[tag2tab(1)](/tag2tab/1.md), [tagprogs(1)](/tagprogs/1.md), [tag(5)](/tag/5.md)

## AUTHOR

John Lines (john@paladin.demon.co.uk)

## BUGS

Does not deal with the cases where the number of fieldnames given on the command line does not match the number of fields in the tab separated file.
