NAME
sted - a small and simple text editor
SYNOPSIS
sted [ -p ] [ file ]
DESCRIPTION
sted means Simple (or Stupid, or Small) Text Editor. It's a very simple text editor. It lets you load a file by specifying it on the command line, or by pressing F11, while in the program. Save by pressing F12 and quit by pressing F9. You can move around with the cursor keys, and the PageUp, PageDown, Home, End, Shift-Left, Shift-Right, Shift-Home and Shift-End keys if your terminal has them. Shift-Del deletes line and Shift-Ins inserts deleted line. You can use some vi(1) keys if you press Control-O. F1 or Help key lists all keys. Control-L or Clear key redraws the screen. The -p parameter starts sted in psychedelic mode.
You can edit Unicode(7) text in utf-8(7) format on Linux console if you have defined a proper keymap. See lt.map in kbd keymaps directory as example. You should set terminal to utf-8(7) mode using unicode_start from kbd or better use special terminfo(3ncurses) entry such as linux+utf8 from 2UTF(1). If odd 8-bit characters above 0xA0 are found in the file they are assumed to be from latin1(7) char-set and are converted.
BUGS
Ncurces outputs too much spaces for lines with multi-byte characters.
DEC private mode escape sequences are used to set terminal to nowrap mode. On exit wrap mode is set.
Control characters may not display properly.
There are probably a lot more of them. If there aren't any, it must be because the program is so very small and simple.
