# sdm-session(1)

starts a sdm session

## NAME

sdm-session - starts a sdm session

## SYNOPSIS

**sdm-session** \[**\<options\>**\]

## DESCRIPTION

opens a session for use with [**sdm**(8)](/sdm/8.md).

if present, */etc/sdm/Xsession* will be called with \<options\> passed on the commandline. alternately */etc/X11/Xsession,* and failing that, the first argument is searched for in the **PATH.**

## FILES

*/etc/sdm/Xsession* */etc/X11/Xsession*

## BUGS

**sdm-session** executes the Xsession scripts rather than sourcing them, and attempts to kill the **PPID,** usually [**ssh**(1)](/ssh/1.md), in order to end sessions for programs which were started outside the scope of the the window manager.
