# qweb(1x)

surf the brave new world of SGML on the WWW.

## NAME

qweb - surf the brave new world of SGML on the WWW.

## SYNOPSIS

**qweb** \[-autoload\] \[-noautoload\] \[-bookmarks url\] \[-catalog file\] \[-home url\] \[-debug\] \[-nodebug\]

## DESCRIPTION

**QWeb** displays SGML documents using Document Type Definitions combined with Style Sheets. Documents can contain hyperlinks to other documents, and data can be retrieved through several different methods. Currently only the 'file' and 'http' URL methods are supported. **QWeb** allows run-time editing of Style Sheets to suit user preferences, and the Style Sheets can be saved for later use. A bookmarks file is also maintained.

### OPTIONS

- *-autoload*

Automatically try to open the home URL (if any) when the program starts up. This is the default.

- *-noautload*

Disable autoloading of the home URL.

- *-bookmarks url*

Set the URL for the bookmarks document. The default is\
    'file:$HOME/bookmarks.sgml'.

- *-catalog file*

Set the filename of the SGML Catalog. There is no default value for this option. This must be a local file, until I write the code for synchronous network connections.

- *-home url*

Set the home URL. This is the URL that the browser starts with. The default is 'http://sunsite.auc.dk/qweb/'.

- *-debug*

Print any warnings or errors to stdout. All render widgets will have a different background color to show document structure.

- *-nodebug*

  Disable debugging mode.

### BROWSER WINDOW

The browser window is the main window for the QWeb application. From the browser window, the following menu options are available:

- *File-\>New Browser...*

Open a new browser window. The new window is not directly associated with the old window, but they will share the same document and DTD caches.

- *File-\>Save As...*

Save the current document data to a local file.

- *File-\>Close*

Close the browser window. If this is last open browser window, then exit the application.

- *File-\>Exit*

  Exit the application immediately.

- *Go-\>Back*

Display the previous document in the history for the browser window. NOTE: Histories are not shared between browser windows within the same application.

- *Go-\>Forward*

Display the next document in the browser history.

- *Go-\>Home*

Visit the document given in the home URL user preference. The browser history is truncated at its current position, and the home URL is appended.

- *Bookmarks-\>Add Bookmark*

Append a bookmark entry to the end of the bookmarks list for the current document's URL. The new bookmark is saved immediately to the bookmarks file.

- *Options-\>Clear Document Cache*

Erase all document data and image data from the in-memory cache.

- *Options-\>Clear DTD Cache*

Erase all parsed Document Type Declarations and their associated Style Sheets from the in-memory cache.

- *Options-\>Save Preferences*

Write the current user preferences to '$HOME/.qwebrc'.

- *Options-\>Save SGML Catalog*

Write the current contents of the SGML Catalog to the file given in user preferences.

- *Windows-\>Preferences...*

Open the Preferences dialog. All of the options available on the comand line are available for editing in this dialog (except debugging). NOTE: User preferences are not saved automatically after the 'OK' button is clicked.

- *Windows-\>Style Editor...*

Open the Style Sheet Editor dialog. As changes are applied to the\
Style Sheet, the document can be reloaded to see how they affect the document's appearance.

- *Windows-\>SGML Catalog...*

Open the SGML Catalog dialog. Within this dialog, the entire contents of the SGML Catalog can be edited. The catalog is just a list of entries. Each entry has a type (Doctype, Entity, Style), a public identifier, and a storage object identifier. The catalog provides a mapping form a type and a public identifier to a storage object identifier. The public identifier is just a symbolic name for the data, and the storage object identifier is the physical location of the data. Storage object identifiers are URLs that are resolved relative to the SGML Catalog file path. To associate a Style Sheet with a document type, give them both the same public identifier (but different types).

- *Windows-\>Console*

Display the debugging console. This window displays parse errors and other warnings during execution.

- *Help-\>About QWeb*

Display version number, author info, and contact information.

- *Back Button*

  See *Go-\>Back*

- *Forward Button*

  See *Go-\>Forward*

- *Home Button*

  See *Go-\>Home*

- *Reload Button*

Reread and display the current document. The document cache is not used.

- *Stop Button*

Abort all data transfers that were initiated by this browser window, immediately.
