overview of qmail documentation

## NAME

qmail - overview of qmail documentation

## INTRODUCTION

**qmail** is a secure, reliable, efficient, simple message transfer agent.

Users who want to control incoming messages should read [**dot-qmail**(5)](/dot-qmail/5.md). Available commands for the **.qmail** file include [**qbiff**(1)](/qbiff/1.md), [**qreceipt**(1)](/qreceipt/1.md), [**forward**(1)](/forward/1.md), [**bouncesaying**(1)](/bouncesaying/1.md), and [**condredirect**(1)](/condredirect/1.md). Other helpful commands include [**maildirmake**(1)](/maildirmake/1.md), [**maildir2mbox**(1)](/maildir2mbox/1.md), and [**maildirwatch**(1)](/maildirwatch/1.md).

System administrators who want to control the entire **qmail** system should start with [**qmail-control**(5)](/qmail-control/5.md) and [**qmail-start**(8)](/qmail-start/8.md). There are three queue-monitoring tools: [**qmail-qread**(8)](/qmail-qread/8.md), [**qmail-qstat**(8)](/qmail-qstat/8.md), and [**qmail-tcpto**(8)](/qmail-tcpto/8.md). Incoming SMTP connections are handled by [**qmail-smtpd**(8)](/qmail-smtpd/8.md).

**qmail** offers two command-line message-sending interfaces: [**qmail-inject**(8)](/qmail-inject/8.md) and [**mailsubj**(1)](/mailsubj/1.md). For background information on Internet mail messages, see [**addresses**(5)](/addresses/5.md), [**envelopes**(5)](/envelopes/5.md), [**qmail-header**(5)](/qmail-header/5.md), and [**forgeries**(7)](/forgeries/7.md).

Miscellaneous documentation includes [**qmail-limits**(7)](/qmail-limits/7.md) and [**qmail-pop3d**(8)](/qmail-pop3d/8.md).

This documentation describes netqmail version 1.05 of **qmail**. See **http://pobox.com/~djb/qmail.html** for other **qmail**-related software, and **http://qmail.org/** for other qmail community contributions.
