# pyrite-sync(1)

synchronize a Palm Computing(R) platform device

## NAME

pyrite-sync - synchronize a Palm Computing(R) platform device

## SYNOPSIS

**pyrite-sync**

## DESCRIPTION

This program runs a Pyrite synchronization session. After running this program, place your handheld in its cradle and press the HotSync(R) button; each selected conduit will be run in turn.

The user name is determined by querying the handheld; there is currently no support for a complete restore, so if your handheld's user name has been lost (eg. if you have reset your handheld), you should use another utility (pilot-link's **install-user,** for example) to give it a user name and restore your data.

## CONDUITS

The list of conduits to run is taken from the **Sync.Conduits** variable in the **Pyrite** section of the configuration file(s). Currently, the following conduits are available:

- **Backup**

  Backs up the handheld.

- **Install**

  Installs databases spooled by *[pyrite-install(1)](/pyrite-install/1.md).*

- **TimeSync**

Sets the handheld's clock to match the desktop clock. (This conduit is probably only useful if the desktop clock is calibrated to a known standard, with NTP for example, because otherwise the handheld's clock is probably the more accurate of the two!)

The standard order for these conduits is Backup, then Install, then TimeSync.
