# puc(4)

PCI “Universal” Communications driver

## NAME

**puc** – PCI “Universal” Communications driver

## SYNOPSIS

**device pci** **device puc** **device sio** **device ppc** **options PUC\_FASTINTR**

## DESCRIPTION

This driver acts as a shim to connect PCI serial and parallel ports to the [sio(4)](/sio/4.md) and [ppc(4)](/ppc/4.md) driver.

The list of supported devices is in *sys/dev/puc/pucdata.c*. Support for new cards should be added there.

If the PUC\_FASTINTR option is used, the driver will try to use fast interrupts. This should lower the interrupt latency and should be used if the [sio(4)](/sio/4.md) driver reports **silo overflow** errors. It cannot be used if the interrupt is shared.

## SEE ALSO

[ppc(4)](/ppc/4.md), [sio(4)](/sio/4.md)

## HISTORY

This driver took the idea from the NetBSD [puc(4)](/puc/4.md) driver and still uses the same structure to describe cards, to ease exchanging card info.

## BUGS

Only serial ports are supported through the [sio(4)](/sio/4.md) driver at the moment.
