# ptkwhois(1)

Perl/Tk Whois Client for X

## NAME

ptkwhois - Perl/Tk Whois Client for X

## SYNOPSIS

**ptkwhois** \[*domain* \[*server*\]\]

## DESCRIPTION

*ptkwhois* is a whois (TCP port 43) client for X, written in Perl/Tk.

whois is a protocol that is used by domain name repositories to allow people to find out information about the owner of a certain domain.

Various details about commands can be found out by sending the command HELP or a ? as the query.

### OPTIONS

- **domain**

The domain or host to lookup.

- **server**

The whois server to use (defaults to whois.internic.net).

## REQUIREMENTS

ptkwhois requires a fairly up-to-date version of Perl (version 5.002 or better). It also (obviously) requires Perl/Tk. Perl/Tk is available in the Nick-Ing Simmons author directory at CPAN. It is also available as a Debian package.
