Overview

Printer is a print manager program for the X window system. It is intended to give non-expert users an intuitive feeling of the printing system. Printer was built around the BSD printing system and uses DnD (the Drag and Drop protocol by Cesar Crusius) to interact with an expanding set of tools. When used together with magicfilter it gives the users the possibility to print their files without caring about that whole pipeline of filters. Printer can activate a job when a file or raw data is dropped on it and provides easy access to multiple printers in a network or at home. The printer status is updated at regular intervals giving instant feedback to the user. Also, using printer a job can be remove from the printer queue with two mouse clicks.

Authors

This program was developed to be an intuitive interface to the BSD priting system. Altough based on BSD code, it was highly modified. The aim of printer is to be able to work together with DnD (the Drag and Drop protocol by Cesar Crusius) in the context of OffiX. OffiX is an expandable environment built around DnD and aimed to give novice and expert users a comfortable and common desktop.
