pp-hotsync(1)

synchronize a PalmPilot

NAME

pp-hotsync - synchronize a PalmPilot

SYNOPSIS

pp-hotsync

DESCRIPTION

This program runs a PalmPython synchronization session. After running this program, place your PalmPilot in its cradle and press the HotSync button; each selected conduit will be run in turn.

The user name is determined by querying the PalmPilot; there is currently no support for a complete restore, so if your PalmPilot's user name has been lost (eg. if you have reset your PalmPilot), you should use another utility (pilot-link's install-user, for example) to give it a user name and restore your data.

CONDUITS

The list of conduits to run is taken from the HotSync.conduits variable in the PalmPython section of the configuration file(s). Currently, the following conduits are available:

Backup

Backs up the PalmPilot.

Install

Installs databases spooled by pp-install(1).

TimeSync

Sets the PalmPilot clock to match the desktop clock. (This assumes that the desktop clock is kept in sync by NTP or some similar means; otherwise, the PalmPilot clock might be the more accurate of the two!)

The standard order for these conduits is TimeSync, then Backup, then Install.
