# pp-hotsync(1)

synchronize a PalmPilot

## NAME

pp-hotsync - synchronize a PalmPilot

## SYNOPSIS

**pp-hotsync**

## DESCRIPTION

This program runs a PalmPython synchronization session. After running this program, place your PalmPilot in its cradle and press the HotSync button; each selected conduit will be run in turn.

The user name is determined by querying the PalmPilot; there is currently no support for a complete restore, so if your PalmPilot's user name has been lost (eg. if you have reset your PalmPilot), you should use another utility (pilot-link's **install-user,** for example) to give it a user name and restore your data.

## CONDUITS

The list of conduits to run is taken from the **HotSync.conduits** variable in the **PalmPython** section of the configuration file(s). Currently, the following conduits are available:

- **Backup**

  Backs up the PalmPilot.

- **Install**

  Installs databases spooled by *[pp-install(1)](/pp-install/1.md).*

- **TimeSync**

Sets the PalmPilot clock to match the desktop clock. (This assumes that the desktop clock is kept in sync by NTP or some similar means; otherwise, the PalmPilot clock might be the more accurate of the two!)

The standard order for these conduits is TimeSync, then Backup, then Install.
