# perlmoo(1)

server for an online multiuser virtual world, implemented in perl

## NAME

perlmoo, perlmoo-test, perlmoo-wizpasswd, perlmoo-dbconvert - server for an online multiuser virtual world, implemented in perl

## SYNOPSIS

**perlmoo** *\[options\]*\
 **perlmoo-wizpassword** *\[dbfile\]*\
 **perlmoo-test** *\[dbfile\]*\
 **perlmoo-dbconvert** *\[dbfile\]*

## DESCRIPTION

**perlmoo** is a server for an online multiuser virtual world, similar in spirit to lambdamoo, implemented in perl.

**perlmoo-wizpassword** is a utility to set the password of the first wizard in a perlmoo database.

**perlmoo-test** starts up perlmoo, with you logged in as the wizard and lets you test the moo. Any changes you make will be lost when you exit.

**perlmoo-dbconvert** handles updating an old perlmoo database to new database formats as they come along.

## OPTIONS

These options only apply to perlmoo.

- **-h, --help**

  Show summary of options.

- **-p port, --port=port**

Make the moo listen to the specified port number.

- **-d dir, --dbdir=dir**

Dump database files to the specified directory.

- **-s dir, --sourcedir=dir**

Look for perlmoo source files in the specified directory.

- **--syslog**

  Log to the syslog.

- **--daemon**

Fork into the background and run as a daemon. Enables --syslog automatically.

- **-i num, --interval=num**

Dump out the database every num minutes. Set to 0 to disable dumps completly.

- **-b num, --backup=num**

Keep num backups of the database.

- **-P file, --pidfile=file**

Write out the pid of perlmoo to the specified file.

## CONFIGURATION

Each of the programs looks for a perlmoo configuration file when it starts up. The following locations are checked, in this order:

- perlmoo.conf

  - $HOME/.perlmoo.conf

  - /usr/local/etc/perlmoo.conf

  - /etc/perlmoo.conf

The file is a perl file, with some simple variable setting in it.
