gnome-sudo(8)

gnome-sudo8

Gui frontend to sudo(8)

Usage

gnome-sudo [-u user] command

Overview

gnome-sudo is typically not invoked directly but rather by other GUI software. In the shell, you would just use sudo(8). gnome-sudo uses a dialog box to prompt for the root password (or user's if specified) and then executes command as that user.

Note that if command takes options you will have to pass the -- pseudo-option to gnome-sudo so that it will pass the options to command rather than interpreting them itself.

Finally, you must have sudoers(5) set up correctly in order for gnome-sudo to work.

Options

-u, --user user

Run command as user instead of root.

Examples

To run the hypothetical gnome-opkg command with a non-standard package database directory:

 % gnome-sudo -- gnome-opkg --pkgdbdir=/var/db/opkg

Files

/etc/sudoers
