dppp
dppp is a dialog based interactive, menu driven utility to help automate starting up a dial up network connection. It currently looks in $HOME/.dunc for *.ctn files to use for the first three forms and calls pon (thus acting as a drop in replacement for it) for the last form.
Each of these may be followed by additional options to be passed directly to pppd unless otherwise specified.
-s [options]
This option starts dppp up in the selection menu. You can pick which connection you wish to run.
This option lets you name a connection on the command line while still allowing you use of the menu system for other things (such as entering a password).
This option lets you specify a connection on the command line and bypass the menu system all together. This is useful if you want to start the connection non-interactively. If the connection uses chat authentication and the password is not stored, it needs to be passed as the first options argument.
The following environment variables may be set to augment dppp's default behavior:
DUNC_DIR
This is the base dirctory where ppp options (.ctn) and chat (.cht) files get written to. The default is $HOME/.dunc
DACU_RC
This is the control file that contains the state information between program runs. It defaults to $HOME/.duncrc
$DUNC_DIR/*.ctn
These files are the name of the connection with a .ctn appended. They are actually a ppp options file appended to the pppd command line by dppp
$DUNC_DIR/*.cht
These are chat files named with the .ctn files.
dppp creates temporary files in /tmp. It cleans up after all of these. If you need error logging, redirect STD_ERR on the command line to a file (a la 2>filename in bourne compatable shells).
Unchanged in 2 releases since Debian 2.0 (Hamm).
