# makeumap(1)

make unicode maps

## NAME

makeumap - make unicode maps

## SYNOPSIS

**makeumap** \[ **-high** \] \[ **-low** \] \[ **-b** \] \[ **-n***native-column* \] \[ **-u***unicode-column* \] *input-file-name map-name*

## DESCRIPTION

**makeumap** is a perl script that processes unicode files from The Unicode Consortium and produces umap files that can be used with **yudit** or **uniconv.** The Unicode text files can be found at ftp://ftp.unicode.org/Public/MAPPINGS/. They use the '#' character for comments and each row contains a columns of one or mode native code and one unicode column. The unicode column is usually the last column. All codes are in hexadecimal form. A typical line looks like this:

"0x8152 0x2133 0x30FD # KATAKANA ITERATION MARK"

Please note that both native code and unicode values are 16-bit integers. The umap file created will be a map file that can be used for encoding as well as decoding.

## ARGUMENTS

- **-high**

Indicates that the native code should have its code or'ed with 0x8080

- **-low**

Indicates that the native code should have its code and'ed with 0x7f7f

- **-b**

Make binary umap. The umap array will be big endian.

- **-n***native-column*

This is the column number of the native column. The numbering starts from zero. The default value is 0, as most of the unicode map files have the native code in their first column.

- **-u***unicode-column*

This is the position of the unicode column. The default value is the last column - after comments have been stripped.

- **input-file-name**

is the unicode map file from The Unicode Consortium.

- **map-name**

Every map has a name that can be different from the file name. Currently map file names take the form of **map-name.umap.** The built-in name of the map is currently left unused by **uedt** and **uniconv.**

- uniconv, yudit
