# libressl-SSL\_library\_init(3)

initialize SSL library by registering algorithms

## NAME

**SSL\_library\_init**, **OpenSSL\_add\_ssl\_algorithms**, **SSLeay\_add\_ssl\_algorithms** – initialize SSL library by registering algorithms

## SYNOPSIS

SSL Library (libssl, -lssl) libcrypto

**#include \<openssl/ssl.h\>**

*int*\

**SSL\_library\_init**(*void*);

*int*\

**OpenSSL\_add\_ssl\_algorithms**(*void*);

*int*\

**SSLeay\_add\_ssl\_algorithms**(*void*);

## DESCRIPTION

These functions are deprecated. It is never useful for any application program to call any of them explicitly. The library automatically calls them internally whenever needed.

**SSL\_library\_init**() registers the available ciphers and digests which are used directly or indirectly by TLS.

**OpenSSL\_add\_ssl\_algorithms**() and **SSLeay\_add\_ssl\_algorithms**() are synonyms for **SSL\_library\_init**() and are implemented as macros.

## RETURN VALUES

**SSL\_library\_init**() always returns 1.

**OpenSSL\_add\_ssl\_algorithms**() first appeared in OpenSSL 0.9.5 and has been available since OpenBSD 2.7.
