## DESCRIPTION

Search a directory tree (synchronous operation).

## PARAMS

*ld* **\[In\]**  Pointer to an **LDAP** context.

*base* **\[In\]**  Starting point for the search.

*scope* **\[In\]**  Search *scope*. One of **LDAP\_SCOPE\_BASE**, **LDAP\_SCOPE\_ONELEVEL** and **LDAP\_SCOPE\_SUBTREE**.

*filter* **\[In\]**  Search *filter*.

attrs **\[In\]**  Attributes to return.

*attrsonly* **\[In\]**  Return no values, only attributes.

*serverctrls* **\[In\]**  Array of **LDAP** server controls.

*clientctrls* **\[In\]**  Array of **LDAP** client controls.

*timeout* **\[In\]**  Timeout in seconds.

*sizelimit* **\[In\]**  Maximum number of entries to return. Zero means unlimited.

*res* **\[Out\]**  Results of the search operation.

## RETURNS

**Success:** **LDAP\_SUCCESS**

**Failure:** An **LDAP** error code.

Call ldap\_msgfree to free the results.
