# john-cronjob(1)

installs or removes the john cronjob

## NAME

john-cronjob - installs or removes the john cronjob

## SYNOPSIS

**john-cronjob** install \| remove

## DESCRIPTION

This manual page describes the john-cronjob script, an add-on to the john package. **john-cronjob** is used to install or remove a cronjob that will run automatically every day, trying to crack passwords (a script will be placed under */etc/cron.daily*). When the script is called, it will check if an instance of john is already running. If not, it will start a new [**john**(1)](/john/1.md) process, and then run the [**mailer**(1)](/mailer/1.md) script.\
When installing or removing the cronjob, this script will never touch a symlink.

## SEE ALSO

[**mailer**(1)](/mailer/1.md), [**john**(1)](/john/1.md), [**unafs**(1)](/unafs/1.md), [**unique**(1)](/unique/1.md), [**unshadow**(1)](/unshadow/1.md), **john.ini**(5)

The programs are documented fully by John's documentation, which should be available in */usr/share/doc/john* or other location, depending on your system.
