# in.xfingerd(8)

simple BSD-compatible finger daemon

## NAME

xfingerd - simple BSD-compatible finger daemon

## SYNOPSIS

xfingerd is supposed to be called from inetd.

## DESCRIPTION

This manual page documents briefly the **xfingerd** command. This manual page was written for the Debian distribution because the original program does not have a manual page.

**xfingerd** is yet another BSD-like fingerd replacement aiming at security. **xfingerd** allows users to be fingered with UID 1000-29999 (according to the Debian Policy Manual, Section 3.2, this range of UIDs will be assigned by adduser). Users can prevent themselves to be fingered by creating an empty $HOME/.nofinger file. PGP public keys can be placed and will be displayed from $HOME/.pgpkey.
