# if\_enic(4)

Cisco VIC Ethernet driver

Part of [enic(4)](/enic/4.md).

## NAME

**enic** – Cisco VIC Ethernet driver

## SYNOPSIS

**device** **iflib** **device** **enic**

In [loader.conf(5)](/loader.conf/5.md): **if\_enic\_load="YES"**

## DESCRIPTION

The **enic** driver provides support for the Cisco Virtual Interface Card. Support is limited to basic network connectivity. Media is controlled by the NIC itself since there can be multiple virtual PCI NIC devices exposed to the PCI bus.

## HARDWARE

The **enic** driver supports all known Cisco VIC Ethernet cards.

## CONFIGURATION

The **enic** network interface is configured using [ifconfig(8)](/ifconfig/8.md) and the [sysctl(8)](/sysctl/8.md) tree at *dev.enic.%d*. All configurable entries are also tunables, and can be put directly into the [loader.conf(5)](/loader.conf/5.md) for persistent configuration.

## SEE ALSO

[ifconfig(8)](/ifconfig/8.md)

## HISTORY

The **enic** device driver first appeared in FreeBSD 14.0.

## AUTHORS

The **enic** driver was written by Cisco UCS team based on the DPDK driver.
