# ichpcib(4)

Intel ICHx/ICHx-M LPC bridges

## NAME

**ichpcib** – Intel ICHx/ICHx-M LPC bridges

## SYNOPSIS

**ichpcib\* at pci?** **isa\* at ichpcib?**

## DESCRIPTION

The **ichpcib** driver supports Intel ICH, ICH0, ICH2, ICH2-M, ICH3-S, ICH3-M, ICH4, ICH4-M, ICH5, ICH6, ICH7, ICH7-M, ICH8, ICH8-M, ICH9, 6300ESB and 6321ESB LPC bridges. These devices are mostly usual PCI-ISA bridges but with some additional power management and monitoring capabilities. Besides the core functionality, the **ichpcib** driver provides support for the Intel SpeedStep technology, available for the ICH2-M, ICH3-M, and ICH4-M chipsets, and power management timer available for all chipsets. It allows the user to control CPU frequency with the [sysctl(8)](/sysctl/8.md) program.

## HISTORY

Intel SpeedStep support for the ICHx-M chipsets first appeared in OpenBSD 3.5 as part of the [pcib(4)](/pcib/4.md) driver. The **ichpcib** driver first appeared in OpenBSD 3.6.

## AUTHORS

The **ichpcib** driver was written by Alexander Yurchenko ⟨*grange@openbsd.org*⟩.

## CAVEATS

On some old machines with the ICH2-M chipset, Intel SpeedStep isn't available.
