## NAME

**htdigest** - manipulate MD5 password files for the Apache server

## SYNOPSYS

**htdigest** \[ **-c** \] *passwordfile* *realm* *username*

## DESCRIPTION

**htdigest** creates or changes MD5 password entries in a specified *realm* for a given *username* in an Apache *passwordfile*. The names and passwords stored in this file can then be used for authentication when accessing protected areas of a Web server tree.

## OPTIONS

- **-c**

  Creates a new *passwordfile*.
