## NAME

guiTAR - generic archive tool for X

## SYNOPSIS

**guitar** \[filename\]

## DESCRIPTION

*guiTAR* is a generic archive tool written in *GTK+*, currently supporting tar, tar.Z, tar.gz, tar.bz2, bzip2-compressed-slp, zip, lzh(lha), arj, and rar files.

*guiTAR* can create, view, extract archives or add files to an existing archive.

*guiTAR* compiles with GTK+ 1.0.1 to GTK+ 1.2.x with no problems. Also GNOME support is available.

*guiTAR* uses tar, gzip, bzip2, zip/unzip, unarj, lha, rar/unrar, and GNU textutils. Only "sort" is needed from GNU textutils, guiTAR uses "sort" to reverse-sort the filelist when extracting files from a tar archive.

## filename

guiTAR opens filename after initialization. This is useful for using guiTAR with various file managers and web browsers.
