# gss\_import\_name(3)

API function

## NAME

gss\_import\_name - API function

## SYNOPSIS

**#include \<gss.h\>**

**OM\_uint32 gss\_import\_name(OM\_uint32 \*** *minor\_status***, const gss\_buffer\_t** *input\_name\_buffer***, const gss\_OID** *input\_name\_type***, gss\_name\_t \*** *output\_name***);**

## ARGUMENTS

- OM\_uint32 \* minor\_status

(Integer, modify) Mechanism specific status code.

- const gss\_buffer\_t input\_name\_buffer

  (buffer, octet-string, read) Buffer containing\
     contiguous string name to convert.

- const gss\_OID input\_name\_type

(Object ID, read, optional) Object ID specifying\
type of printable name. Applications may specify either\
     GSS\_C\_NO\_OID to use a mechanism-specific default printable\
syntax, or an OID recognized by the GSS-API implementation to\
     name a specific namespace.

- gss\_name\_t \* output\_name

(gss\_name\_t, modify) Returned name in internal form.\
Storage associated with this name must be freed by the\
application after use with a call to **gss\_release\_name()**.

## DESCRIPTION

Convert a contiguous string name to internal form. In general, the internal name returned (via the *output\_name* parameter) will not be an MN; the exception to this is if the *input\_name\_type* indicates that the contiguous string provided via the *input\_name\_buffer* parameter is of type GSS\_C\_NT\_EXPORT\_NAME, in which case the returned internal name will be an MN for the mechanism that exported the name.

## RETURN VALUE

\`GSS\_S\_COMPLETE\`: Successful completion.

\`GSS\_S\_BAD\_NAMETYPE\`: The input\_name\_type was unrecognized.

\`GSS\_S\_BAD\_NAME\`: The input\_name parameter could not be interpreted as a name of the specified type.

\`GSS\_S\_BAD\_MECH\`: The input name-type was GSS\_C\_NT\_EXPORT\_NAME, but the mechanism contained within the input-name is not supported.
