# grunch(1)

merges partial scans into a larger image

## NAME

grunch - merges partial scans into a larger image

## SYNOPSIS

**grunch** image-name

## DESCRIPTION

This manual page documents briefly the **grunch** command. This manual page was written for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution because the original program does not have a manual page.

**grunch** is a program that grunch is a package of scripts and software which can take a pair of side-by-side partial scans of an image, and merge them into a single image without leaving an obvious seam. It was written to allow LP record jackets to be scanned using an ordinary single-page flatbed scanner.\
See /usr/share/doc/grunch/README for hints how to use **grunch** and the included scripts **avgpgmval**, **grunch-compose**, **makecard**, **makecolorsheet**, **makecover**, **makescale**, **makesheet**, **grunch-munch**, **printcard**, **printcolorsheet**, **printcover**, **printsheet**, **rgrunch**, **scancover**, and **texttocard**, as well as the executables **match** and **pgmramp8**.

Please note:\
I had to rename the script compose to grunch-compose, because an executable file of the former name is installed to /usr/bin by the Debian package mime-support. Likewise, I had to rename the script munch to grunch-munch, because a manpage of the name munch.1 is installed to /usr/share/man/man1 by the Debian package xscreensaver.

To fix security issues that prevented an inclusion of grunch in Debian I had to modify all occurences of /tmp and ./tmp to /.grunch/tmp in the files compose, makecard, makecolorsheet, makecover, makesheet, and munch. Run the script install-grunch to install these directories in your home directory, and run the script clear-grunch to remove all temporary files in these directories.

For the script scancover to work you have to adjust the settings for your scanner in /usr/bin/scancover itself!
