**size\_t gnutls\_est\_record\_overhead\_size(gnutls\_protocol\_t** *version***, gnutls\_cipher\_algorithm\_t** *cipher***, gnutls\_mac\_algorithm\_t** *mac***, gnutls\_compression\_method\_t** *comp***, unsigned int** *flags***);**

## ARGUMENTS

- gnutls\_protocol\_t version

  is a **gnutls\_protocol\_t** value

- gnutls\_cipher\_algorithm\_t cipher

  is a **gnutls\_cipher\_algorithm\_t** value

- gnutls\_mac\_algorithm\_t mac

  is a **gnutls\_mac\_algorithm\_t** value

- gnutls\_compression\_method\_t comp

  is a **gnutls\_compression\_method\_t** value (ignored)

- unsigned int flags

  must be zero

## DESCRIPTION

This function will return the set size in bytes of the overhead due to TLS (or DTLS) per record.

Note that this function may provide inaccurate values when TLS extensions that modify the record format are negotiated. In these cases a more accurate value can be obtained using **gnutls\_record\_overhead\_size()**  after a completed handshake.
