## NAME

gnews\_applet - Watch the headlines on your GNOME panel

## SYNOPSIS

**gnews\_applet**

## DESCRIPTION

**gnews\_applet** is a scrolling news ticker applet.

It supports most of the well known news sites through it's plugin interface. To  add  this  applet to a Panel, right-click on the Panel and choose panel-\>Applet-\>Utility-\>Gnome News

## OPTIONS

**gnews\_applet** recognises the standard GTK+ options and it's own options accessible from it's properties dialog.

### Layout

- **Applet width**

  Sets the desired width of the applet.

- **Scroll timeout**

  Sets the speed of scrolling in millisecundums. The bigger is slower.

- **Scroll timeout**

  Sets the interval of refreshing the headlines in minutes. The bigger is slower.

- **Border**

  Sets the border type around the applet. Available options are: none, in, out, etched in, etched out.

### Behaviour

- **Scrolling**

  Sets the style of scrolling. It should be Continous when the applet scrolls continously into one direction or it should be Pong when it scrolls until it reaches the last headline then begins to scroll into the other direction.

- **Delay \[x\] time units at he edges**

  When using Pong scrolling the applet will wait for scrolltimeout\*\[x\] millisecundums before switching direction. Only active when using Pong.

- **Always show titles**

  Forces the applet to show the title of the headlines even when the headline has no unique title.

- **Always show hints**

  Forces the applet to always show the tooltips of the headlines.

- **Warn on new headlines**

  If selected then the applet emits sound if a new headline is fetched since the previous update.

- **Use site separators**

  If selected then the applet displays a rounded pixmap edge around the site blocks.

- **Unique separators**

  Will be used later.

- **Use site colors**

  Displays the headlines in the specific colors of the sites.

### HTTP

- **Use proxy**

  It tells the applet that it should use a proxy during the http transfers.

- **Proxy url**

  The url of your proxy. Uses http://host.domain:port/ form.

- **Proxy user**

  The username for the proxy if it is using authentication.

- **Proxy password**

  The password for the proxy if it is using authentication.

### News

- **Available**

  Here you can choose which sites you want to display in the applet. The sites are divided into categories. To add a site to your list select the site in the list and press **Add**. **Properties** will be used later.

- **Selected**

  Here are the sites you selected. To reorder them select a site you want to move and press **Up** or **Down**. If you want to delete a site from the list then select the desired site and press the **Delete** button.
