# getdns\_dict\_get\_bindata(3)

## NAME

**getdns\_dict\_get,** **getdns\_dict\_get\_bindata,** **getdns\_dict\_get\_data\_type,** **getdns\_dict\_get\_dict,** **getdns\_dict\_get\_int,** **getdns\_dict\_get\_list,** **getdns\_dict\_get\_names** -- get value by name from a getdns dict

## LIBRARY

DNS Resolver library (libgetdns, -lgetdns)

## SYNOPSIS

\#include \<getdns.h\>

getdns\_return\_t \
 **getdns\_dict\_get\_bindata** (getdns\_dict \*this\_dict,

char \*name,\
 getdns\_bindata \*\*answer)

getdns\_return\_t \
 **getdns\_dict\_get\_data\_type** (getdns\_dict \*this\_dict,

char \*name,\
 getdns\_data\_type \*answer)

getdns\_return\_t\
 **getdns\_dict\_get\_dict** (getdns\_dict \*this\_dict,

char \*name,\
 getdns\_dict \*\*answer)

getdns\_return\_t \
 **getdns\_dict\_get\_int** (getdns\_dict \*this\_dict,

char \*name,\
 uint32\_t \*answer)

getdns\_return\_t \
 **getdns\_dict\_get\_list** (getdns\_dict \*this\_dict,

char \*name,\
 getdns\_list \*\*answer)

getdns\_return\_t \
 **getdns\_dict\_get\_names** (getdns\_dict \*this\_dict,

getdns\_list \*\*answer)

## DESCRIPTION

The getdns\_dict type is used to manage name/value pairs in which the names are strings and the data types of the values are heterogeneous and include

getdns\_bindata\
 getdns\_dict\
 getdns\_list\
 uint32\_t

*this\_dict* the dictionary from which to retrieve the list of names

*name* the name whose associated value is to be returned in answer

*answer* the list of all names in the dictionary, note that the caller must free storage allocated to the list via a call to **[getdns\_list\_destroy(3)](/getdns_list_destroy/3.md)**

## RETURN VALUES

Upon successful completion the functions return **GETDNS\_RETURN\_GOOD** , otherwise the following error values are returned:

**GETDNS\_RETURN\_GENERIC\_ERROR** if this\_dict is not a valid dictionary

**GETDNS\_RETURN\_NO\_SUCH\_DICT\_NAME** if the name argument doesn't exist in the dictionary

**GETDNS\_RETURN\_WRONG\_TYPE\_REQUESTED** if the requested data type doesn't match the contents of the indexed argument or name

## EXAMPLES
