# geotifcp(1)

Copy TIFF with updated GeoTIFF Metadata

## NAME

geotifcp - Copy TIFF with updated GeoTIFF Metadata

## SYNOPSIS

**geotifcp** \[*options*\] \[**-e** *esri\_worldfile*\] \[**-g** *metadata*\] *input* *output*

## DESCRIPTION

**geotifcp** is identical in function to the LIBTIFF program **tiffcp**, with the additional feature that if the "FC**-g**F\[0\]" option is used the GeoTIFF information from the file will be installed into the output file. The "FC**-e**F\[0\] *worldfile*" option will override the tiepoint and scale information from the metadata file based on the contents of the ESRI worldfile.

If the "FC**-g**F\[0\]" option is not used the geotiff information from the source file is preserved in the new output file.

"**geotifcp**" inherits all the other file-transformation capabilities of the **tiffcp** program; for help on the additional parameters give the command:

```
FC
% geotifcp -h
F[0]
```

The metadata format is the same as is described in the [**listgeo**(1)](/listgeo/1.md) program. Normally metadata files for use with **geotifcp** are generated from a similar file with **listgeo**, and then modified by hand as required.

## OPTIONS

- FC**-g**F\[0\] *file*

  install GeoTIFF metadata from *file*

- FC**-4**F\[0\] *proj4\_str*

  install GeoTIFF metadata from proj4 string

- FC**-e**F\[0\] *file*

  install positioning info from ESRI Worldfile *file*

- FC**-a**F\[0\]

  append to output instead of overwriting

- FC**-8**F\[0\]

  write BigTIFF instead of default ClassicTIFF

- FC**-o**F\[0\] *offset*

  set initial directory offset

- FC**-p**F\[0\] FCcontigF\[0\]

  pack samples contiguously (e.g. RGBRGB...)

- FC**-p**F\[0\] FCseparateF\[0\]

  store samples separately (e.g. RRR...GGG...BBB...)

- FC**-s**F\[0\]

  write output in strips

- FC**-t**F\[0\]

  write output in tiles

- FC**-i**F\[0\]

  ignore read errors

- FC**-d**F\[0\]

  truncate 8 bitspersample to 4bitspersample

- FC**-r**F\[0\] *#*

  make each strip have no more than *#* rows

- FC**-w**F\[0\] *#*

  set output tile width (pixels)

- FC**-l**F\[0\] *#*

  set output tile length (pixels)

- FC**-f**F\[0\] FClsb2msbF\[0\]

  force lsb-to-msb FillOrder for output

- FC**-f**F\[0\] FCmsb2lsbF\[0\]

  force msb-to-lsb FillOrder for output

- FC**-c**F\[0\] lzw\[:opts\]

  compress output with Lempel-Ziv & Welch encoding

- FC**-c**F\[0\] zip\[:opts\]

  compress output with deflate encoding

- FC**-c**F\[0\] jpeg\[:opts\]

  compress output with JPEG encoding

- FC**-c**F\[0\] packbits

  compress output with packbits encoding

- FC**-c**F\[0\] g3\[:opts\]

  compress output with CCITT Group 3 encoding

- FC**-c**F\[0\] g4

  compress output with CCITT Group 4 encoding

- FC**-c**F\[0\] none

  use no compression algorithm on output

Group 3 options:

- FC**1d**F\[0\]

  use default CCITT Group 3 1D-encoding

- FC**2d**F\[0\]

  use optional CCITT Group 3 2D-encoding

- FC**fill**F\[0\]

  byte-align EOL codes

For example, FC**-c**F\[0\] g3:2d:fill to get G3-2D-encoded data with byte-aligned EOLs

JPEG options:

- FC**#**F\[0\]

  set compression quality level (0-100, default 75)

- FC**r**F\[0\]

  output color image as RGB rather than YCbCr

For example, FC**-c**F\[0\] jpeg:r:50 to get JPEG-encoded RGB data with 50% comp. quality

LZW and deflate options:

- FC**#**F\[0\]

  set predictor value

For example, FC**-c**F\[0\] lzw:2 to get LZW-encoded data with horizontal differencing
