# fputws(3)

output a line of wide characters to a stream

## NAME

**fputws**, **fputws\_l** – output a line of wide characters to a stream

## LIBRARY

Standard C Library (libc, -lc)

## SYNOPSIS

**#include \<stdio.h\>**

**#include \<wchar.h\>**

*int*\

**fputws**(*const wchar\_t \*restrict ws*, *FILE \*restrict stream*);

**#include \<stdio.h\>**

**#include \<wchar.h\>**

**#include \<xlocale.h\>**

*int*\

**fputws\_l**(*const wchar\_t \*restrict ws*, *FILE \*restrict stream*, *locale\_t loc*);

## DESCRIPTION

The **fputws**() function writes the wide character string pointed to by *ws* to the stream pointed to by *stream*.

Although the **fputws**() function uses the current locale, the **fputws\_l**() function may be passed a locale directly. See [xlocale(3)](/xlocale/3.md) for more information.

## RETURN VALUES

The **fputws**() function returns 0 on success and -1 on error.

## ERRORS

The **fputws**() function will fail if:

- \[EBADF\]

  The *stream* argument supplied is not a writable stream.

The **fputws**() function may also fail and set *errno* for any of the errors specified for the routine [write(2)](/write/2.md).
