# filter\_wrapper(1)

invoke a KOffice filter as a separate process

## NAME

filter\_wrapper - invoke a KOffice filter as a separate process

## SYNOPSIS

**filter\_wrapper** *constr file storePrefix mimeType nativeFormat config number*

## DESCRIPTION

This manual page documents briefly the **filter\_wrapper** command. This manual page was written for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution because the original program does not have a manual page.

**filter\_wrapper** is a small wrapper program used to invoke a KOffice filter as a separate process. This is quite nice for "alpha-quality" filters which tend to crash from time to time.

This wrapper can only be used if you use the most simple of all possibilities to import/export files (via two temporary files). To tell the filter manager that you'd like to use this wrapper, please simply replace *Implemented=file* with *Implemented=bulletproof* in your filter's .desktop file.

The wrapper gets the information about filtering from the filter manager as command-line arguments and prints progress and the name of the temporary file to standard output.

This utility is part of the KDE Office Suite.

## OPTIONS

- *constr*

A constraint expression as used by KDED's trader interface. This is used to select a subset of the available filters.

- *file*

The name of the file to convert.

- *storePrefix*

The name used for the converted object in the tar storage. Use this as the prefix to name embedded objects.

- *mimeType*

The mime type of the file to convert.

- *nativeFormat*

The mime type that we are converting to.

- *config*

A string containing configuration information for the filter.

- *number*

An index that specifies which specific filter we wish to use from the subset described by *constr*.

## NOTES

This utility will be automatically called by the filter manager if you follow the instructions in the DESCRIPTION section above. Ordinary users should not need to run this utility themselves.

## EXIT STATUS

- 0

  OK.

- 1

  Wrong number of command-line arguments.

- 2

Error on reading the command-line arguments.

- 3

The query described by *constr* didn't return enough results.

- 4

  Couldn't create the filter.

- 5

Unable to open the temporary file.

- 6

Error on filtering (the filter didn't return OK).
