# fdconfig(1)

manipulates FramerD configuration files

## NAME

fdconfig - manipulates FramerD configuration files

## SYNOPSIS

**fdconfig \[** *config\_name* **\] list**

**fdconfig \[** *config\_name* **\] locate**

**fdconfig \[** *config\_name* **\] get** *var*

**fdconfig \[** *config\_name* **\] set** *var* *value*

**fdconfig \[** *config\_name* **\] reset** *var*

**fdconfig \[** *config\_name* **\] add** *var* *val*

**fdconfig \[** *config\_name* **\] use-pool** *pool*

**fdconfig \[** *config\_name* **\] use-index** *index*

**fdconfig \[** *config\_name* **\] use-server** *function* *port* **@** *hostname*

## DESCRIPTION

**fdconfig** is used to maintain FramerD configuration files, which provide configuration information for various programs. A configuration file specifies a set of global variable bindings which are used to initialize different programs or modules.

If the initial *config\_file* argument is **-profile** , then the current user's FramerD profile is accessed; if the *config\_file* parameter is either not provided (e.g. the first argument is the subcommand name) or is **-config** , the system-wide FramerD config file is accessed (this may require special privileges). Otherwise, *config\_file* is a filename to which **fdconfig** will append the suffix **.cfg**

Certain of the commands require write access to the specified file or create access to its directory (the file will be created if neccessary).

## SUBCOMMANDS

- locate

returns the absolute pathname of the specified configuration file. This is most useful for locating the system configuration file on the system.

- list

lists all of the variable bindings specified by the configuration file.

- get var

prints the binding for *var* specified by the configuration file.

- set var val

sets the binding for *var* in the configuration file to be *val*

- reset var

removes and bindings for *var* in the configuration file

- add var

adds an additional value *val* to the bindings of *var* in the configuration file. If there are no current bindings for *var* in the file (i.e. it has not been **set** ), the additional value will be marked to be added to whatever current values exist in the environment when the configuration file is loaded. This allows multiple configuration files to contribute to the same global values.

- use-pool pool

adds the pool *pool* (which is either a filename or a server specification (see [**dtcall**(1)](/dtcall/1.md) ) to the configuration variable **%POOLS** which is used by the command line interface to FramerD databases (see [**fdd**(1)](/fdd/1.md) ).

- use-index pool

adds the index *pool* (which is either a filename or a server specification (see [**dtcall**(1)](/dtcall/1.md) ) to the configuration variable **%INDICES** which is used by the command line interface to FramerD databases (see [**fdd**(1)](/fdd/1.md) ).

- use-server fcn\_name port@hostname

assigns the global value of *fcn\_name* to be a **remote procedure** implemented by the server listening on *port* at *hostname.*

## OPTIONS

**fdconfig** is a script implemented by [**fdscript**(1)](/fdscript/1.md) so its command line can contain interspersed bindings of the form *var* **=** *val* as well as options such as **-f** *scheme-file,* **-C** *config-file,* or **-m** *module* which can load arbitrary scheme files, config files, or modules.

## DIAGNOSTICS

The program reports file access errors.

## BUGS

No known bugs.
