# dwarf\_get\_fde\_instr\_bytes(3)

retrieve instructions from FDE descritpor

## NAME

**dwarf\_get\_fde\_instr\_bytes** – retrieve instructions from FDE descritpor

## LIBRARY

library “libdwarf”

## SYNOPSIS

**#include \<libdwarf.h\>**

*int*\

**dwarf\_get\_fde\_instr\_bytes**(*Dwarf\_Fde fde*, *Dwarf\_Ptr \*ret\_inst*, *Dwarf\_Unsigned \*ret\_len*, *Dwarf\_Error \*error*);

## DESCRIPTION

Function **dwarf\_get\_fde\_instr\_bytes**() retrieves instruction bytes from a given FDE descriptor.

Argument *fde* should reference a valid DWARF FDE descriptor.

Argument *ret\_inst* should point to a location that will be set to a pointer to an array of bytes containing the instructions of the FDE descriptor.

Argument *ret\_len* should point to a location that will hold the length in bytes of the instructions returned in argument *ret\_inst*.

If argument *err* is not NULL, it will be used to store error information in case of an error.

Applications can use the function [dwarf\_expand\_frame\_instructions(3)](/dwarf_expand_frame_instructions/3.md) to parse and expand the returned instruction bytes into an array of *Dwarf\_Frame\_Op* descriptors.

## RETURN VALUES

Function **dwarf\_get\_fde\_instr\_bytes**() returns DW\_DLV\_OK when it succeeds. In case of an error, it returns DW\_DLV\_ERROR and sets the argument *err*.

## ERRORS

Function **dwarf\_get\_fde\_instr\_bytes**() can fail with:

- \[DW\_DLE\_ARGUMENT\]

One of the arguments *fde*, *ret\_inst* or *ret\_len* was NULL.
