# dr\_watch(1)

dr\_watch - execute a program periodically, showing output fullscreen dr\_watch command dr\_watch behaves like [watch(1)](/watch/1.md): it runs command repeatedly, displaying its output. By defaults, it executes "sleep 2" before it refreshes the program's output: it behaves as watch. However, unlike watch, it supports refreshing the screen when some external command, passed in the DR\_SLEEP\_CMD environment variable, exits. If DR\_NICE\_WATCH is set to "false", it tests whether [watch(1)](/watch/1.md) is available on the system and runs it if found. dr\_watch honors integer DR\_SLEEP: number of seconds to wait between execution; DR\_SLEEP\_CMD: e.g. 'sleep 5' or 'mpc idle'; and DR\_NICE\_WATCH: set this to "false" if you prefer traditional watch over our reimplementation.
