## DESCRIPTION

These programs convert *source*, which should be an SGML document conforming to the debiandoc DTD, to various output formats. Each format converter **debiandoc2***foo* places its output in *basename***.***foo* where *basename* is *source* with any leading directory components and any trailing **.sgml** removed. If *source* is **-** then input is taken from standard input. This option is not available with **debiandoc2dvi**, **debiandoc2dvips**, **debiandoc2info**, and **debiandoc2html**.

**debiandoc2dvi** produces a DVI file via the LaTeX2e typesetting system. This can be used to produce PostScript output.

**debiandoc2dvips** produces a PostScript file via the LaTeX2e typesetting system.

**debiandoc2html** produces a subdirectory *basename***.html** containing an HTML representation of the input. The \`top level' page is named *basename***.html/index.html.**

**debiandoc2info** produces an Info file via the Texinfo documentation system.

**debiandoc2latex2e** produces an input file for the LaTeX2e typesetting system. This can be used to produce PostScript output.

**debiandoc2lout** produces an input file for Jeffrey Kingston's Basser Lout typesetting system. This can also be used to produce PostScript output.

**debiandoc2texinfo** produces an input file for the Texinfo documentation system. This can be used to produce an Info file.

**debiandoc2text** produces a single plain ASCII text file, formatted to a width of 79 columns.

**debiandoc2textov** produces an ASCII text file, formatted to a width of 79 columns, with overstrikes for highlighting (using backspaces and repeated characters or underscores). This is the same ASCII text output style as is generated by troff.

**debiandoc2ps** produces a 2-up PostScript file formatted for landscape printing.

## OPTIONS

- **-k**

Causes the intermediate files to be left in the directory containing the destination file. These include files in **nsgmls**'s output format, *basename***.sasp** and *basename***.sasp-html,** *basename***.sasp-latex2e,** *basename***.sasp-lout,** *basename***.sasp-text,** or *basename***.sasp-textov,** for **debiandoc2dvi** the LaTeX2e typesetter input *basename***.latex2e** and the LaTeX2e cross-reference and log files *basename***.aux,** *basename***.toc,** and *basename***.log,** for **debiandoc2dvips** the LaTeX2e DVI file *basename***.dvi,** for **debiandoc2info** the Texinfo file *basename***.texinfo,** and for **debiandoc2ps** the Lout typesetter input *basename***.lout,** the 1-up postscript *basename***.ps1,** and *basename***.ps1x** as well as Lout's cross-reference database files **lout.li** and *basename***.lout.ld.**

- **-O**

Produces output to standard output instead of to the file *basename***.***foo.* This is implied when input is taken from standard input. This option is not available with **debiandoc2dvi**, **debiandoc2dvips**, **debiandoc2info**, and **debiandoc2html**.

- **-1**

This causes **debiandoc2ps** not to convert the output to \`2-up' style, where two pages of text are printed on each physical sheet.

- **-p** *papersize*

This causes **debiandoc2dvi**, **debiandoc2dvips**, and **debiandoc2ps** to produce output suitable for printing on paper whose size name is *papersize*. See [**papersize**(5)](/papersize/5.md) for details.

- **--**

Separates options from the *source*, in case it begins with a hyphen.

## ENVIRONMENT

- **LANG**

If this environment variable is set in accordance with the [**locale**(1)](/locale/1.md) support, its value is used for various strings in generating the output. Currently, the following languages are supported: Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.

## BUGS

There should be a program to convert the overstrikes generated by **debiandoc2textov** from using backspaces to using carriage returns.

The paper size support in **debiandoc2dvi**, **debiandoc2dvips**, and **debiandoc2ps** is not complete.
