# cern-httpd(8)

HTTP server daemon (aka WWW server)

## NAME

cern-httpd - HTTP server daemon (aka WWW server)

## SYNOPSIS

**cern-httpd** *\[options\]*

## DESCRIPTION

This manual page documents briefly the **cern-httpd** command. This manual page was written for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution (but may be used by others), because the original program does not have a manual page. Instead, it has documentation in HTML format; see below.

**cern-httpd** is a world-wide-web server daemon. It listens for requests on a TCP/IP port (typically 80) and returns files and other information in response.

## OPTIONS

A summary of options are included below. For a complete description, see the documentation files.

- **-r** *rulefile*

Use *rulefile* as the configuration files, instead of the default /etc/cern-httpd.conf

- **-p** *port*

Listen for request on port number *port.* Without this argument (and without a port specified in the configuration file) cern-httpd assumes it has been started by inetd, and listens on stdin.

- **-l** *logfile*

  Use *logfile* to log requests.

- **-restart**

Send SIGHUP to an already running cern-httpd process to force it to re-read the configuration file. If the **-r** option was used on the original run, the same option must be used for this request also.

- **-gcc\_only**

Do only garbage collection (cache cleanup) and exit. Useful only when running cern-httpd as a proxy server.

- **-v**

  Verbose, turn on debugging messages.

- **-vv**

  Very verbose.

- **-version**

Print version number of cern-httpd and the libwww.a used to build it.
