# cdindex(1)

program to register and retrieve information in the cdindex.org CD database.

## NAME

cdindex - program to register and retrieve information in the cdindex.org CD database.

## SYNOPSIS

**cdindex -s** *\[cdrom device\]*\
 **cdindex -g** *\[cdrom device\]*\
 **cdindex -l** *\[cdrom device\]*

## DESCRIPTION

This manual page documents briefly the **cdindex** client program.

**cdindex** is used to send or retrieve the title, length and artist information of the music CD which is in the *cdrom device* from the cdindex.org database.

This program uses html instead of a special protocol. The data will be freely available from cdindex.org (as will the server).

This manual page was written for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution because the original program does not have a manual page.

## OPTIONS

When invoked without a *cdrom device* cdindex uses /dev/cdrom. Supply a device name like /dev/hdd if the music CD is not in the device /dev/cdrom points to.

- **-s**

send the information of the current CD to the database. This (currently) invokes netscape.

- **-g**

gets the titles of the current CD from the database. This opens netscape with a listing of the titles and the artists of the current CD.

- **-l**

This displays the URL with which netscape would have been invoked (but netscape is not started).

## TODO

The choice of the webbrowser should be a configuration option.
