CASIO interface program

## NAME

casio - CASIO interface program

## SYNOPSIS

**casio-boss \| cassio-illum** \< **-r** \| **-w** \> \[ **-h** \] \[ **-l** *commport* \] \[ **-s** *baudrate* \] \[ **-p** *parity* \] \[ **-b** *bytelength* \] \[ **-o** *file* \] \[ **-t** \] \[ **-d** *debuglevel* \] \[ **-v** \]

## DESCRIPTION

This manual page documents briefly the **casio** program. This manual page was written for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution (but may be used by others), because the original program does not have a manual page.

**casio** is a backup and restore utility for a CASIO digital diary. Currently, the BOSS and ILLUMINATOR series are supported.

## OPTIONS

- **-r -w**

The direction of the data transfer. **-r** is used for reading data from the CASIO to the PC. **-w** for the opposite direction.

- **-h**

  Print help.

- **-l commport**

The PC's serial port that has to be used. Specify as *COM1, COM2, COM3* or *COM4* or simply as *1, 2, 3* or *4.* For Solaris specify *TTYA* or *TTYB* or simply as *A* or *B.*

- **-s baudrate**

Either *1200, 2400, 4800* or *9600* must be specified. Note that not all communication speeds are supported by most CASIO BOSS models but only 9600 is supported by the ILLUMINATOR series (Casio design)

- **-p parity**

*none, odd, even.* The ILLUMINATOR only supports none (casio design)

- **-b bytelength**

The number of bits transfered for one byte, *7* or *8* are valid values. The ILLUMINATOR model only supports 8 (Casio design)

- **-o file**

The name of the file where the backup data are to be written to or read from.

- **-t**

Store data to ASCII file too.

- **-v**

  Increase debug level.

- **-d debuglevel**

Set debug level. Debug level 6 will only print the setup info and exit.

## CONFIGURATION

So that the program could run, you must have a configuration file ".casiorc" in your home directory.

The configuration file consists of optional lines of format **keyword:value.** Possible keywords are: passwd, line, speed, parity, bytelen, dbase, debug.

## REMARKS

The layout of the used data file is not directly in a readable format since all data records as needed for the CASIO are not really processed into a convenient format. The file data are used for backup/restore purposes only and should not be edited.

CAUTION: Do not interface the CASIO directly to the PC's serial port, since this may cause permanent damage to the CASIO. Always use the circuit as described in /usr/doc/casio/circuit\*.gif. It contains level converters for converting the +12/-12 Volts levels on the PC side to the +5/0 Volts levels that the CASIO uses.

Also keep in mind that the Secret Area of the CASIO has to be backuped/restored separate.

## AUTHOR

The author of the casio program is Jamal Hadi Salim \<hadi@cyberus.ca\>.

This manual page was created by Milan Zamazal \<pdm@fi.muni.cz\>, for the Debian GNU/Linux system, mostly by copying help output of the program.
