# aurecord(1)

record audio signals at specified rate

## NAME

aurecord - record audio signals at specified rate

## SYNOPSIS

**aurecord -r rate -c channels -t time -e**

## DESCRIPTION

[**aurecord**(1)](/aurecord/1.md) is an internal command to the **signalPAK** routines and is not intended for direct command-line use.

[**aurecord**(1)](/aurecord/1.md) records *time* seconds of *channels* channel audio at *rate*. If the *-e* option is specified, recording doesn't begin until there is a signal to record, and stops when the signal ends, so it is great for capturing a bit of speech without having to remove the surrounding silence.

The data is written to stdout as:\
\
     4 byte rate (machine format)\
\
4 byte number of channels (machine format) \
\
     2 byte channel1 channel2 channel3 ... (machine format)\
\
     2 byte channel1 channel2 channel3 ... (machine format)\
\
     ...\
\
     2 byte channel1 channel2 channel3 ... (machine format)

## AUTHOR

**aurecord** is part of **signalPAK**, a collection of signal-processing routines for Octave, written by Paul Kienzle. See **http://users.powernet.co.uk/kienzle/signalPAK/**.
