# amuled(1)

the all-platform eMule p2p client - daemonized version

## NAME

amuled - the all-platform eMule p2p client - daemonized version

## SYNOPSIS

\[**-c** ***\<path\>***\] \[**-p** ***\<path\>***\] \[**-w** ***\<path\>***\] \[**-t** ***\<num\>***\] \[*eD2k-link*\|*collection-file*\]

## DESCRIPTION

- **\[ -c** *\<path\>*, **--config-dir**=*\<path\>* **\]**

  Read config from *\<path\>* instead of home

- **\[ --log-file**=*\<file\>* **\]**

  Write logs to the specified filename instead of the default log file. Overrides the **LogFilePath** setting under **\[eMule\]** in *amule.conf* for this run only. Relative paths are resolved against the configuration directory. The parent directory must already exist and be writable; it is not created automatically. An empty or absent configuration setting uses *logfile* in the configuration directory. On startup, the previous log is backed up to the same path with *.bak* appended. If the backup cannot be created, a warning is logged and the current session is appended to the existing log. Configuration changes take effect after restart.

- Forks to background.

  - **\[ -p** *\<path\>*, **--pid-file**=*\<path\>* **\]**

  After fork, create a pid-file in the *\<path\>*. *\<path\>* has to contain the filename.

- Configure EC (External Connections).

  - Prints log messages to stdout.

  - Resets config to default values.

  - Enable or disable starting amuled on user login, then exit.

  The OS-specific store is selected automatically: Windows registry Run key, macOS LaunchAgent, Linux XDG *.desktop* autostart entry.

- Enable or disable aMule as the current user's default handler for ed2k:// and magnet: links, then exit.

  *\<value\>* is **on** or **off** for both kinds of link, or **ed2k:on**, **ed2k:off**, **magnet:on** or **magnet:off** for one of them. The OS-specific store is selected automatically: Windows registry, macOS LaunchServices, Linux XDG *mimeapps.list*.

- Enable or disable aMule as the current user's handler for *.emulecollection* files, then exit.

  The OS-specific store is selected automatically: Windows registry, macOS LaunchServices, Linux XDG *mimeapps.list*.

- **\[ -w** *\<path\>*, **--use-amuleweb**=*\<path\>* **\]**

  Specify location of amuleweb binary to *\<path\>*.

- Don't catch fatal exceptions and don't block exit on assertions.

  Useful for headless / supervised setups (systemd, watchdog scripts) where the otherwise-modal assertion dialog prevents auto-restart.

- Does not disable stdin.

  - **\[ -t** *\<num\>*, **--category**=*\<num\>* **\]**

  Set category for passed eD2k links to *\<num\>*

- Displays the current version number.

  - Prints a short usage description.

  - **\[ eD2k-link \| collection-file \]**

  Adds an eD2k-link, or every link in an eMule collection file, to the core.

The eD2k link to be added can be:

- •

  a file link (ed2k://\|file\|...), it will be added to the download queue;

- •

  a server link (ed2k://\|server\|...), it will be added to the server list;

- •

  a serverlist link, in which case all servers in the list will be added to the server list;

- •

  a magnet link.

Alternatively the argument can be the path to an .emulecollection file, or a file:// URL naming one, in which case every link it contains is added to the download queue. This is what lets a file manager open a collection with aMule.

## FILES

\~/.aMule/\*

- *~/.aMule/allowed-remote-dirs.dat*

  The folders a remote EC or amuleapi client may point the incoming, temporary, shared or category download folders at, one absolute path per line. Empty or absent (the default) means every such remote folder change is refused. On a daemon-only install, such as a container or the Android port with no monolithic aMule to edit the list in its GUI, create or edit this file and restart **amuled** to allow remote folder changes; relative lines are ignored.

## MEDIA METADATA

**amuled** runs **ffprobe** on each received file to extract the length, bitrate and codec tags it then publishes to the network. This is on by default (**Enabled=1** under **\[MediaMetadata\]** in *amule.conf*); set **Enabled=0** there and restart to turn it off. The **ffprobe** binary is chosen by **FFProbePath** in the same section and is local daemon configuration; it cannot be set over EC or amuleapi.
