# addressbook(1)

Address manager written in Tk

## NAME

addressbook - Address manager written in Tk

## SYNOPSIS

**addressbook** \[*options*\]

## DESCRIPTION

**addressbook** is a program to manage your addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and everything which is now written in your rolodex. **addressbook** is copyrighted by Clemens Durka, but available under the GNU GPL.

This manual page documents the options accepted by **addressbook**, but does not provide complete documentation for the application. To read the complete manual, run **addressbook** and select *MANUAL* under the *Help* menu.

## OPTIONS

Generally you will not need to use options since they are stored in your configuration files (see *CONFIGURATION FILES* below).

- **-a** *file*

  - **-addrfile** *file*

Supply the path to an alternate addressfile *file* to load instead of the default.

- **-c** *file*

  - **-configfile** *file*

Supply the path to an alternate configuration file *file* to read instead of the default.

- **-hlp**

  Show the usage message.

- **-iconic**

Start as an icon. Useful if started automatically with the window manager.

- **-lg** *lang*

  - **-language** *lang*

Use the language *lang* instead of the default.

- **-ld** *dir*

  - **-libdir** *dir*

Use the directory *dir* to as the library dir instead of the default. **addressbook** looks for bitmaps, language data, etc., in this location.

- **-l**

  - **-lock**

Try to lock the addressfile. This is the default; it prevents multiple copies of the software from writing to the same file.

- **-ro**

Open address file read-only and do not try to lock it.

- **-db** *number*

  - **-debug** *number*

Set the debug level to *number*.

## ENVIRONMENT

The following environment variables affect the behavior of **addressbook**:

- **ADDRBOOK\_LIBDIR**

Sets the library directory, same effect as the option **-ld** above.

- **ADDRBOOK\_ADDRFILE**

Sets the address file, same effect as the option **-a** above.

- **ADDRBOOK\_CONFIG**

Sets the configuration file to be used by **addressbook**, same as the option **-c** above.
